Everingham Hall & Chapel
28 September @ 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm£29
Leaving the Memorial Gardens at 1 pm, we will travel by coach to Everingham. The Hall was built 1757-64 by John Carr & was restored by Francis Johnson in 1962, who removed the large Victorian additions. The house, which has some fine mid-18th century woodwork & fireplaces, is an interesting example of a property which has been adapted to modern family life. It is only open for private tours. After our tour of the house with the owner, we will visit the magnificent, Italianate Catholic Church which was completed in 1839 to celebrate the Catholic Emancipation Act 1829 which permitted the building of Catholic Churches. The interior is spectacular with gilding, statues and Corinthian columns. There will then be time to explore the grounds & walk by the lake before we end our tour with tea & cake. Estimated return time to York 5 30pm. Closing date for bookings August 24th
