Gallery Talk: Lely’s portrait of Charlotte Fitzroy

10 November @ 10:00 am - 10:45 am

A talk at the Gallery by Grace England, holder of last year’s MA bursary sponsored by the Friends. Grace will discuss Stephen Dixon’s Passage, a set of three ceramic plates made in 2011 for a commission from the York Art Gallery. They are inspired by Peter Lely’s portrait of Charlotte Fitzroy and her page, which is part of the Gallery’s collection. Grace wrote on that portrait for our Artwork of the Month series, and will now discuss Dixon’s Passage as a contemporary examination of the original 17th century portrait, as well as the role of art as a tool of political commentary and investigation.

The talk will be held in CoCA on Wednesday 10 November at 10:00. Friends will be able to enter the Gallery without pre-booking, but please remember to bring your membership card. Seats and audio loop will be available. We will be expected to depart promptly by 11 am. Those wishing to stay on will need to have previously booked to do so.
