Visit to Bolsover Castle
*** Fully booked ***
A coach trip from York to Bolsover Castle, Derbyshire. On arrival there will be a guided tour before a free flow visit. Refreshments will be available to purchase.
Bolsover Castle was once the home of Charles Cavendish, the son of Bess of Hardwick, and substantial alterations were made by him to the original Norman castle using the architects Robert and John Smythson. This enhancement was continued by Charles’s son, William, one of the richest noblemen at the court of James I and Charles I. William had the Little Castle, which was designed by the Smythsons, decorated with emblematic and erudite wall paintings. These murals have recently had to be conserved as a matter of urgency.
Arrival time back at York around 4pm. Closing date for applications: 14 May 2021
