Artwork of the Month August 2026

The next Artwork of the Month talk will be held on Wednesday 12 August at 11.30 am in the Madsen Gallery. Jane Eddleston’s talk will be about Rebecca Salter, current President of the Royal Academy and the first woman to be elected to that role. Salter is a British printmaker, who trained in the traditional methods of woodblock printmaking under a Japanese master in Kyoto, and who still collaborates with a workshop there today. In particular, the talk will be focussed on the works Celest 1 and Celest 2, which are included in the exhibition ‘Making Waves’, which closes on 30 August.

Jane will discuss the collaborative nature of printmaking, the differences between woodblock and woodcut prints, and ‘original’ printmaking as an art-form as opposed to mass-produced reproductive prints.
