Artwork of the Month: A Life with Pots
Our next Friends’ Talk will be on Wednesday 13th May at our usual time – 11.30am. It will be in the Studio – the room at the far end of the Upper North gallery. Dorothy Williams, a long-time member of the Friends, will talk about her early interest in pots and how in the fifties and about to leave for Nigeria, then still a British colony, she heard about Michael Cardew. He had been appointed a Pottery Officer there and had established a training centre at Abuja to work with Nigerian potters, including Ladi Kwali. The pots they made are now internationally well known with a number in the collection here at CoCA. In an illustrated talk Dorothy recalls her time living there and buying the pots for use every day.
Our Artwork of the Month talks are free and booking is not required, but do remember to bring your membership card for free admittance to the Gallery.
