Artwork of the Month: Engagement Ring by Cornelia Parker
8 April @ 12:00 pm - 12:30 pm
Engagement Ring Drawing (as long as it lasts), Cornelia Parker (2002)
Cornelia Parker is probably best known for her large scale installations such as the exploded shed (Cold Dark Matter) and her crushed silver objects repurposed as Thirty Pieces of Silver. Her work is about destruction, resurrection and reconfiguration but not always on a grand scale. More recently she has turned to the smaller, quieter and more subliminal and York Art Gallery is fortunate to have acquired this piece through the Contemporary Art Society. This talk will look at how Parker makes interventions in everyday objects, and while making conceptual art accessible, challenges the viewer not only to rethink the original object but also the world around us.
