The Battle of Stamford Bridge Tapestry

20 March @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

£15

*** This event is fully booked ***

This remarkable tapestry, created by a team of volunteers between 2016-2021, depicts scenes from the crucial battle of Stamford Bridge on 25 September 1066, when King Harold defeated a Viking invasion, before marching south to meet Duke William at the battle of Hastings on 10 October 1066. The Stamford Bridge tapestry, designed by Chris Rock, is in the same style as the Bayeaux Tapestry and was made on a linen background, using natural dyes and similar embroidery stitches. We will have a talk by one of the embroiderers and see a video on the making of the tapestry, before having tea and cake and the opportunity to view the tapestry, which is mounted on 15 separate panels.

If you are travelling by car, there is an ample car park, beside the Old Station. The number 10 bus from York to Stamford Bridge, stops outside the door. The journey takes about 40 minutes.
Cost £15 to include talks & tea. *** This event is fully booked ***
