Each year the Friends sponsor an internship at York Art Gallery for an MA student in the History of Art, University of York, to research an aspect of the collection. The most recent bursary was awarded to  Grace England whose research adds greatly to our understanding of some of the Gallery’s best-loved eighteenth century female portraits.

We are happy to share this message from Grace to the Friends:

“The Friends’ support has been invaluable to me over the last year. The chance to work with the York Art Gallery has provided me with great experience and skills to take with me on my future endeavours, and some amazing opportunities to work on exciting projects like the Grayson Perry exhibition. I send my thanks out to everyone who has supported the studentship.”
