Artwork of the Month for June

12 June @ 1:00 pm - 1:30 pm

This month’s Gallery talk will be given by Danae Browne, an MA student in the History of Art department at the University of York and recipient of this year’s bursary which has been part-sponsored by the Firiends. Her subject will be the 1941 painting by Paul Nash (1889-1946), Winter Sea, which can be viewed on Art UK here.

Danae has contributed this introduction to her talk: “I will place Paul Nash’s ‘Winter Sea’ within his wider artistic practice. Through an engagement with events from the artist’s life in the 1920s and 30s (when he produced the work), the talk will examine the painting’s fractured aesthetic. This will be followed by an exploration of the work’s relation to Nash’s landscapes from the Great War.”

Members are reminded to bring their FYAG membership card for free admission to the Gallery.
