*** This event is fully booked *** Opened in1837, York Cemetery Chapel is a grand neo-classical building. The Chapel and the entire cemetery layout were designed by the York architect, JP Pritchett. It is one of the finest cemetery chapels in the country.

We meet under the Chapel Portico at 10 30am.We are fortunate that our guide will be Dr Richard Keesing, Honorary Fellow, University of York. He is Chairman of the York Cemetery Trust, and played a leading role in the restoration of the Chapel which had become derelict, after years of neglect. The Trust took over the cemetery in 1987, and the Chapel reopened in 2012, after extensive restoration. Our guided tour will last about one hour. Refreshments (self-funded) will then be available in the new Harriet Centre. Afterwards there are the cemetery grounds to explore, which should be at their best in early June.
