The Friends of York Art Gallery have the exciting opportunity of visiting the Garsington Opera Festival during a short 3 day trip from 31st May to 2 June 2024.The Festival is held in the beautiful grounds of Womersley Park, the home of the Getty family. The operas are staged in a specially designed Opera Pavilion which seats 600, under cover, but has views out to the surrounding countryside. We will travel by coach from York to Aylesbury via Rothschilds’ Ascott House and Tring Natural History Museum on day one, staying in the four star Holiday Inn at Aylesbury. Day two starts with a morning visit to Waddesdon Manor, probably the best known of the Rothschilds’ properties before travelling to Garsington for a performance of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and interval dinner. On the final day we return to York via the magnificent Stowe Gardens and Sulgrave Manor, known as the home of George Washington’s English ancestors, arriving in York in the early evening.
